Antiparos

A small and tranquil island with a variety of choices.  Its size doesn’t limit the activities for the holidaymaker. It is located next to Paros and belongs to the Cyclades islands group. In ancient times Antiparos was called Oliaros.

Getting there

The closest island is Paros, so the best way to get Antiparos is to take a direct flight to Paros from Athens or a ferry from Piraeus and then take the local boat.

Accommodation

Antiparos  is popular as an ideal camping destination. Apart from this choice, the  visitor can find hotels and rooms for all tastes and preferences. Some of the best places to stay are located in the lively capital of Antiparos, while some others are situated in popular beaches of the island.






Beaches

The beaches on Antiparos Island are quite extraordinary, some are long sandy stretches and others are rocky coves, but all have shimmering blue waters.

Glyfa beach

It is a tranquil and unspoiled beach where you can enjoy the swimming in the crystal water and the sunbathing in the soft sand. The calmness of the beach, render it ideal for families. Next to Glyfa beach there are some hotels and taverns.

Psaraliki beach

It is an organized beach with sunbeds and umbrellas. Its shallow waters make it ideal for families. It also has pedal boats for renting, and there is also space for beach tennis and windsurfing. A number of picturesque taverns and music clubs are available.

Camping Beach

This enchanting beach is one of the most popular of the island. The beautiful scenery of plants creates  a feeling of relaxation. The camping offers tents for shade.

Vathis Volos  beach

In the lovely sandy beach of Vathis Volos, the visitor can enjoy the privacy and tranquility. Some small hotels and rooms can be found in close distance around this beach.

Sightseeing

Kastro (castle)

A tour at the sites of Antiparos Island is an amazing experience. In the capital town, you can see the Venetian Castle .The Castle is close to Antiparos’ square. It was built in 1440, in order to protect residents from pirate invasions. It is of gothic style and it is an organized complex of buildings with an interesting medieval settlement in the Cyclades islands. In the centre of this square complex was the Tower, from which only the base has been saved. Around it residences were built. Amongst them there were three small churches.

The cave of Antiparos

It is located on Ayios Ioánnis Hill, and it is famous for its marvelous  stalagmite and stalactite formations. Here, you will find the oldest stalagmite in Europe! Initially, it was used as a shelter and after as a worship place.

Events

The Festival of Agia Marina

It takes place every year on July 15-17. Agia Marina is considered the protector saint of the island. The event involves several activities with yacht racing, triathlon swimming and race in the streets of the island. On the last day there is a litany of the sacred icon of Agia Marina. There, people are gathered around and in the church and athletes are awarded.

The Festival of Ai Giannis

It takes place on June 23 and 24 in Antiparos Town in the Castle and revives the tradition of Klidonas, an old custom.

It is the tradition to set fire to the garlands of flowers and create  a large outdoor fire  where people jump over the bonfires.
